New River Electrical’s dedication to safety is entwined in every aspect of our operations, from detailed pre-planning and daily briefings to continuous training and equipment inspections. From the initial stages to the final wrap-up at the end of the day, we are committed to ensuring everyone involved in a project goes home safe and sound.
Pre-Planning & Hazard Mitigation
Our commitment to safety starts long before a project breaks ground. During the bidding phase, our estimators conduct thorough site assessments alongside project managers to identify any pre-existing hazards.
A cornerstone of our planning is a job hazard analysis, which breaks down each project into component tasks and identifies associated risks. From there, we develop targeted strategies to mitigate hazards before they pose a threat. It’s less about ticking boxes and more about fostering an environment in which everyone is aware of their surroundings and responsibilities.
“We strive to catch things early before they become problems,” emphasizes Jason Lester, Manager of Safety Operations. We set ourselves up for success by addressing these issues right from the start.
Daily Job & Task-Specific Briefings
Every day begins with a comprehensive job brief that sets the tone for safe operations. The morning job briefing ensures every team member is aware of their tasks, potential hazards, and relevant safety protocols.
Smaller groups may hold task-specific briefings to discuss activities in more detail. These sessions cover everything from fire extinguisher locations to specific crew roles and responsibilities.
Stretch & Flex Routine
Every morning starts with a “Stretch & Flex” routine led by a qualified professional. This 10-minute exercise session helps reduce the risk of injuries by warming up muscles and increasing flexibility.
“We incorporate stretching exercises to prepare our team physically and mentally for the day ahead,” Lester mentions.
Building Capacity & Equipment Inspections
Even with thorough planning, things can go wrong. That’s why we build capacity into every project plan—a series of backup measures designed to protect people on the job.
“Our goal is to create a safe working environment where accidents are prevented before they can happen,” explains Lester. “We have safeguards in place to ensure that, even if something fails, our team members are protected.”
Before any work begins, all equipment undergoes rigorous inspections to identify potential damage or failure points. Additional checklists are completed for tasks involving heavy machinery or hazardous materials to ensure no detail is overlooked.
Continuous Training & Peer Review System
Whether it’s routine housekeeping sessions or specialized training on new equipment, our team members regularly participate in educational programs about best practices in workplace safety. Safety at New River Electrical is an ongoing commitment reinforced through continuous training and accountability checks.
To prevent complacency and encourage active participation in safety planning, we rotate responsibility for leading job briefs among team members. This peer review system ensures everyone remains engaged and accountable while providing fresh perspectives on potential hazards.
Exceeding Industry Standards in Safety
New River Electrical’s unwavering commitment to safety is reflected in every aspect of our daily operations, from meticulous pre-planning stages to comprehensive morning briefs and continuous training initiatives.
By fostering a culture where safety comes first, we not only meet but exceed industry standards—ensuring that every person on the job returns home safe at day’s end.
