Growing a Career at NRE

At New River Electrical, we attract quality employees with our commitment to safety and excellence. “I was working in the commercial industry in Columbus, Ohio, with a different contractor,” said Ryan Marshall, Vice President of the Substation Division in our Westerville office. When he was given the chance to work for NRE in October 2006, he made the switch and never looked back.

Starting as Project Engineer under former Substation VP Jeff Leonard, Ryan helped with field and office support until he was promoted to Project Manager in the Substation Division. Moving from Project Engineer to Department Manager over the course of twelve years, Ryan grew significantly within our company.

The New River Family

Ryan was promoted to Substation Division Vice President in early 2018 to prepare for Jeff Leonard’s future retirement.

In his current position, Ryan’s department manages a number of different utilities such as American Electric Power, Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utility, and many of Ohio’s Rural Electric Cooperatives, to name a few. “We manage blanket contracts with those utilities for labor and equipment resources that work on maintenance and capital improvements,” said Ryan. Two project managers, a project engineer, and a financial controls analyst work on Ryan’s team to support the men and women in the field to insure a successful project completion.

“The people we meet, the people we work for and work with, the New River team – it’s a great family relationship we have here. Everyone really takes pride in what they do,” said Ryan. “I think everyone is excited to come to work every day.”

Solving Problems the Safe Way

NRE’s culture of safety has impacted the way Ryan thinks about being safe in all aspects of his life. “Safety is everyday,” said Ryan, “We take an active leadership role in promoting a solid safety culture here at NRE. And that culture goes with you, at work, in your car, with your family, and by yourself.”

Perhaps what Ryan loves the most about his work, though, is solving problems every day with his colleagues here at NRE. “No day is the same,” said Ryan. “There are always new challenges presented each day, and it is exciting to work on these challenges with the NRE team.”
