New River Walks to Beat Heart Disease

New River Electrical employees participated in the 2015 Roanoke NRV Heart Walk in support of the American Heart Association. The Heart Walk was held at River’s Edge Park South in Roanoke, Virginia. Seven years ago, NRE joined the walk in partnership with corporate sponsor Rutherfoord. Since then, NRE employees have continued to give of their time and resources to promote physical activity to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.

Angelia Stanley, from the Underground Transmission division, has been the team leader for New River since 2009. When asked how far the walk is she stated, “They have a couple of different skill levels at each walk. The main one is the 3K which Buddy (Buddy Furr, former NRE Sr. Executive Vice President) and I would race to finish it first and we usually were in the first few people to finish, usually in about 40 minutes! They also have a shorter route people can walk which I believe is just a mile.”

This year, the New River Electrical team raised a record $2,010.00, surpassing the original goal of $1,500.00. There is still time to donate. The deadline for this fundraiser is Dec 31, 2015. You can support this worthy cause by clicking here.
