Substation construction and maintenance is the heart and backbone of New River’s business operations. It is the specialty that founded our company over 50 years ago and still represents approximately 50% of our revenues.

New River offers complete self performed turn key construction services including:

• Relay and control wiring

Subcontractors are typically used only for major site grading work or testing and commissioning services if required. New River can offer complete Design/Build EPC services via our relationship with our consulting engineering partners.

Aggressive schedules and complex technical challenges are our specialty. New River has constructed many of the nations 500kv substations over the last decade and all six of the 765kv projects installed over the last 20 years in the United States. New River excels at installing static var or series reactor systems and constructed the nations first Flexible A C Transmission System (FACTS) that provides real time variable control of capacitive and reactive flow on major system interconnections. Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) technology is another specialty where our craftsmen excel.

New River maintains a large continuously employed substation workforce of over 200 technicians and craftsmen that can handle any assignment from adding a new 12kv feeder position to the construction of a new UHV substation.
