New River Awarded Bethel - Norwalk 345kV XLPE Cable Project

11/15/2005

The first U.S. 345kV XLPE underground transmission cable installation requiring multiple splices has recently been awarded to NRE. This is a high visibility project of national interest and will lead the way for future extra high voltage underground installations. We have teamed with Sagem Communication (cable manufacturer) and Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman (civil subcontractor) for this turnkey 2.1 mile double-circuit installation. The project consists of this 2.1 mile segment and is an integral part of the overall expansion project. The work shall include the furnishing and installation of a complete 345-kV XLPE duct bank and cable system , including construction survey, excavation, trenching, backfill, and disposal of excavation spoils, construction of a two foot high by three foot, six inch wide (2’H x 3’6"W) concrete duct bank with miscellaneous communications duct bank breakout segments; installation of 345-kV XLPE cable including pulling, splicing, terminating, grounding and bonding; installation of temperature monitoring fiber optics, accessories, and thermocouples, construction of end point termination structures, including foundations and steel structures and provision of miscellaneous materials and services.

We are looking forward to developing a long-term relationship working with Northeast Utilities Service Company and Connecticut Light & Power Company on this project.
